CALL FOR EDITORS 2024

UBC’s Journal of Political Studies (JPS) is seeking enthusiastic, qualified editors to fill our 2024 Editorial Board. The JPS is one of the longest-running and most highly regarded undergraduate research journals in the country, and is supported by the Department of Political Science and Political Science Students’ Association. The JPS is an interdisciplinary, double-blind peer-reviewed journal that seeks to publish exceptional undergraduate writing from a variety of disciplines.

Our editors will undergo formal training in copy-editing and research methods during first term. Following this, they will proceed to participate in lively rounds of debate, contestation, and editing to select articles for publication at the end of the academic year in April, during second term. The bulk of the work of an Editor takes place in the second term, and is estimated to be a commitment of 1-5 hours per week depending on where we are in the editing process.

Joining the Editorial Board is a fantastic way to be involved in one of the premier undergraduate research journals in Canada, gaining valuable experience in editing, writing, and publishing along the way.

How to apply

Successful applicants should demonstrate an avid interest in political studies, regardless of their chosen field of study, and an excellent command of language. All editors are trained, so formal editing experience is not a requirement. Due to the rigorous nature of the papers and the prerequisite knowledge required, we are seeking students in their third years and above - but please send us an email if you feel that you would be a valuable member of the team and do not meet this requirement.
